Background / Setup
The miracle that Jesus performed in the feeding of the five thousand was probably one of the most memorable events in the time of His ministry. Thousands and thousands of people from across Galilee and other remote places gathered together to listen to the teaching of Jesus. Practically five thousand people cane to hear Jesus speak that day. Recalling the story, Jesus felt compassion for them and wanted to give them something to eat. After the disciples had desperately searched for food they found only five loaves of bread and two fish. The disciples became frantic, but for Jesus that was all He needed. After giving thanks for the food, He gave it to the people and everyone had their fill. There were even twelve extra basket full of food left.
Warm-up
Have all the student take a field trip to the hill. Have them seated. As you meet, have everyone share their favorite food.
Then talk about the areas in the world that are suffering because there is no food, also talk about how one can help. What areas in the world are suffering because of the lack in food supply? How can one help? At the end distribute some fish and bread to everyone.
Study
Read Matt 14:15-21"What do you think was the purpose of Jesus performing this miracle?"
"Why didn’t the disciples trust in Jesus to feed the five thousand when before this event Jesus had already done many other miracles in front of them?"
"How does this passage apply to us now? Can there be any application to be done?"
Application
With God’s power, love, and compassion working through us, He can use us to do his Miracles for those who are in need.
Reflection
Ask: Will you be open for God to work through you regardless of when?
Let’s pray that the Lord will move us and touch our hearts today. Ask him to allow us to be used in a mighty way to help others just as He did when He was on earth.
