YouthPastor.com - Military Community Youth Ministries : MCYM was formed initially as a joint effort between Young Life and Youth for Christ.
Since then, MCYM has expanded its focus to incorporate the efforts of other like-minded youth organizations and churches to reach military adolescents with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our most recent alliance is with the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministries. MCYM is a collaborative member of the NFCYM.
Who are the people on the MCYM Team?
MCYM Staff serve as youth ministers on military installations. Our best Staff are people who are healthy and competent adults, deeply committed to their own Christian faith, who already understand the rigors of student ministry. We have been around since 1980 and believe our longevity and success in ministry has resulted from recruiting and building into the highest-quality individuals possible. We seek men and women who understand and are not afraid of responding in obedience to the call of God in their own lives. Our Staff are located at or near military installations around the world to provide ministry to military youth and their families.
As an organization we are deeply committed to relational ministry, using the programming models of Young Life and Youth for Christ. MCYM is also affiliated with the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry as a Collaborative Member organization. Most of our staff are employees of one of these two youth-serving organizations. Parent organizations provide administration, training and credentialing for our field staff. New Staff join one of these organizations based upon previous experience or the needs of MCYM.
MCYM Staff are vocational youth workers recruited from across the U.S.A. to MCYM, often from the ranks of Young Life or Youth for Christ. These Staff are assigned for service with MCYM by their parent organizations for an initial period of 2 years (staff interns) or 3 years (community directors and others). Staff can renew their service with MCYM beyond their initial period of service upon mutual consent of MCYM and their parent agency.
