The song "I Am" comes first from one of the names for god. Yahweh, the great "I Am". The chorus of the song is a call to God, praising His name. The verses of the song deal with reasons why I praise God - the works of His hands, for his creation, for creating me, for protecting me and much more.
This is a love song written for my wife of several years. We love to be together, and this is a poetic look at our desire to stay with each other. God has given us to each other and I look at my wife as a most beautiful gift from God. God instructs wives and husbands to enjoy the gift of marriage. This song is an interpretation of our relationship in that context.
This song deals with the idea of waste. When a woman poured an expensive jar of perfume on Jesus' head, some disciples thought she had wasted it. There is no such thing as wasting anything on Jesus! "Lost On You" says that I am going to "waste" my life on Jesus. As the song says, "...give my heart, soul, and mind, down on my knees before You" - that's what I see as pouring my life out on Him.
In 1 Samuel, God tells Samuel that man looks on outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. God knows my heart and He knows that I want to praise Him, serve Him, know Him and love Him.
This song deals with coming to a realization that God is pursuing a love relationship with me. If our love relationship is not right with Him, then nothing in your life will be. Knowing the importance of this, there is so much I want to tell God, so much I want to share with Him.
Only God created us, the world around us. Only God through His Son enables us to have a relationship with Him. This is all force majeure - an Act of God! The song talks line by line about specific ways I try to "love the Lord God with heart, soul and mind."
