Synopsis: Teach your teens all there is to know about the parable that God told about a farmer who went out to plant some seed one day. WE are to plant the seed regardless of seeing it grow.
Read the Conditions of Use Statement.

The Sower

Luke 8:4-15

(Parable used by Jesus)

A farmer was going out to spread some seeds

Where the seeds fall:

-along the walking path

-on the rocks

-along the thorns

-good soil

What might happen in each circumstance?

How might the seeds grow in each situation?

READ Luke 8:4-8

The Walking Path--seeds were trampled on and the birds ate them.

(Picture the paths beside the deep soil. Walked on to be hard as rock.)

The Rocks--seeds sprouted and then withered because of lack of water.

(Doesn't mean rocky soil but a small layer of soil over lime rock. In this case no moisture.)

The Thorns--seeds grew and then were choked by the thorns.

(Soil looked clean but the bad seeds of weeds and thorns were hidden in the turned soil.)

The good soil--yielded crop a hundred times what was planted.

(Rich thick dark soil with nutrients to grow.)

What does this stand for and mean?

What does the seed and what does the soil represent?

READ Luke 8:9-15

Seed = Word

Path =People Who Hear Word

Pathway-seed is places but Satan (birds) come and take word away so that they don't believe and be saved. The people are hard hearted and close minded. They reject the word.

Rocks-except word with joy but have no roots to keep them strongly grounded. Receive word but don't think through it.

Thorns-except the word and grow but then get choked up by worldly pleasures and do not mature/stay idle. People are so busy that God gets crowded out

Good-willing heart and people who are eager to hear and obey. They persevere and produce crop. Those who are attentive and who puts what they hear into action.

Main Idea-Conclusion

*Parable spoken in time when God had been banished from synagogues and Pharisees and other leaders were against Jesus. Easy to get down and disciples to be down. Do not despair! Jesus knows that the seeds don't always grow but the harvest is sure!

*Also be careful how you listen and hear the Word. Make sure you have a willing heart that is made of good soil.

Do you have rocks in your spiritual life or are the thorns choking you? What kind of soil are you?

Do you lose hope and get depressed sometimes because you keep planting seeds that don't grow?

Just let God handle it. If we plant the seed, He will allow that seed to grow.
