Synopsis: Help teens today find out how to discover God's will for their life and how to willingly commit to doing it. God is in control! |
Example of Guidance--(opening) A friend asked me to come over the other day and so I wrote down the directions to his place. However, as I left, I had to take many wrong turns before getting to his house. The next time this friend told me to come over, he was with me. This time it took only that I obeyed and listened. This friend was my directions because he knew the way home. Looking for God's Way Sometimes we ask God for that same detailed road map to follow. We say "Why don't you just tell me where you want me and I will set a course and go." However WE are not to do anything but to follow Him step by step one day at a time. John 14:6 I am the Way the Truth and the Life.-- HE is the way!! We are not the way nor can we go anywhere without Him. If you were to do everything day by day to obey God, then would you be in the center of God's will?? (YES--When you get to the place where you TRUST Jesus to guide you, you will experience a whole new freedom and peace.)
Abram Read Gen. 12:1, 12:4-5
What did God say?
How specific was
He?
Leave and GO Where?
God will show him what?
STEP BY STEP!!
Are
you ready to follow God that way??
Many times God just calls people to follow, like with Abram. He is more likely to call you one day rather than define what he wants for you first.
Read Matthew 6:33-34 apply scripture.--Trust-Follow-Agree-Do it! (When you are following His will, you do not need to be overly concerned. God is in Control.) If you cannot accept these ideas now, then you need to confess your struggle to God and give it over to Him.
READ Phil. 2:13 Focus on God We also need to see that we are asking the right questions and praying the right prayers. If we are praying that God shows us His will for our life we are asking the wrong things. What do you think about this statement?? CRAZY?? NO, we should be asking what God's will IS. Not for me or for you but in general. What is His purpose? Once you know His purpose, then you will know what your purpose is. Focus on God not on me!! Role Models When we want to learn our role we should look at the best role model in the Bible. JESUS! He perfectly completed every assignment from God. He never failed to do the will of his Father. He never sinned. This is the process that Jesus went through to find and follow God's will.
READ John 5:17, 19-20
1. Who is at work?
2. How much can he do by
himself?
3. What does the Son do?
4. Why does the Father show the Son what
He is doing?
To find God's will, some say just look where He is working and join Him! Recognize-Find-Follow(step-by-step) The Bible is our guide to all this. Challenge teens to read the instruction book of life and know how to be Christ like in order to find out God's will. (suggestion) share leaders own personal experiance.
