What’s Jesus Doing in Your Life
Characters:
John
Paul
Jesus
Setting: John starts off center stage. Jesus is standing in a chair slightly to stage left. Paul enters stage right.
John: I can’t believe that guy, can you imagine the pastor telling us, I mean us the church that we don’t really understand what it means to be a Christian. Now take me for example I have been a Christian for years now, and thank you very much I do believe I have figured out what it means to be a Christian. When I was saved I walked down to the front of the church and told everyone, then I was baptized, then I got my first bible, hey and since then I have even gotten a different version. I go to church and I sing in the youth choir. So thank you very much mister preacher man but I do believe I know what it means to be a Christian. Oh and just to prove my point even further look I even have Jesus in my life just like the preacher said we need. (John points to Jesus)
Paul: (entering from the right) Hey John what’s up. I just came by to see what you were doing or rather how you were doing you looked a little shook up during the service this morning.
John: No, I’m OK
Paul: Good. Wasn’t the pastor’s sermon great this morning? I mean I thought he was dead on with what he said about some people not understanding what it truly means to be a Christian.
John: Yea, your right, I’m telling you some of those people are way off. Unlike us of course. Look, we have our bibles and we go to church and…
Paul: Whoa, I think there is a little more to it than that.
John: What do you mean, all of this stuff makes us great Christians.
Paul: No, the only thing that makes us Christians is if we have Christ in our heart, not any of this other stuff.
John: Well yeah, there is that, but I do have Jesus in my life (points to Jesus)
Paul: OK but what has he done in your life lately.
John: (a bit confused) What has he done in my life lately? Well right there he is, every day he is right there.
Paul: I know but that still doesn’t answer my question. Oh, my mother is calling I’ve got to go bye! (exits the way he came in)
John: What in the world is he talking about? (to Jesus) I have you in my life, I mean you are right there every day, right there. (Jesus begins to move and to come down from the chair and over to John) What are you doing? Get back up there, you are fine just where you are.
Jesus: No John I am fine I have been here as a part of your life, and only as a part of your life I want to be your life. I want to walk with you in every thing that you do. You see John I don’t want to be just your top priority, I want to be all of your priorities. There is so much more to Christianity than just going to church and reading your bible and being in a youth group. I don’t want you to be religious; I want you to be holy. You are missing so much that I can offer you by sticking me off in a little corner of your life. If you would only let me into all of your heart I will show you the joy that comes through following me. I am tired of just being a reference point in your life. I want to be your friend, your father, your Lord. It is time that you learn what it really means to be a Christian. It is time you let me take control of your life. Trust me John, I won’t let you down.
