Position Description:

Title:Children and Youth Pastor

Position:Non-Exempt
Supervised by the Corps Officer

Pay: $13.93/ hour

Qualifications:

Experience:Must be a Christian with a strong desire to bring others into a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. An Associate Degree, two years college accreditation or three years equivalent experience in
related field. Must be able to teach and lead people consistent with The Salvation Army doctrines, practices and beliefs. Leadership qualities should be strong, and he/she should be aware of current musical and creative ministry trends in worship. He/she must have the ability to organize and direct special groups.

Required Skills:
Summary:The Children and Youth Pastor shall work in close cooperation with the Corps Officer and other leaders to support the total ministry of The Salvation Army both in the church and the local community, in overseeing and organizing various programs offered by the church. The Children and Youth Pastor shall be responsible for the development and promotions of creative ministries (music, drama, etc.) programs and church growth in the respected children and youth programs. Keeping in mind The Salvation Army’s ultimate goal is salvation and growth of all people, this therefore necessitates that he/she place great emphasis on people consistent with that goal.

Organization:The ability to maintain a self-motivated and self-directed schedule. The employee must demonstrate the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct and supervise a multi-faceted Salvation Army operation with limited supervision from Corps Officer.

Professionalism:The ability to present oneself in a professional and appropriate manner. The ability to maintain
confidentiality regarding information and documentation.

Personal:The ability to interact with coworkers and the public in a positive manner. The ability to work
with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Must be creative, self motivated,
organized, flexible and posses leadership skills.

Working Conditions:Works with sensitive and confidential material. Will require a criminal history information
check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered. Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record (Note: Prior to appointment, finalist will be required to provide authorization to The Salvation Army to obtain a driving record. Extensive driving, driving long distances, night driving, overnight travel, and extended travel of three days or more may occasionally be required.) The following equipment may be used: telephone, computer equipment, typewriter, electronic recorder, fax/copy machine, microphones, audio-visual equipment, 10-key calculator. Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds will occur. Must have the ability to: sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis, to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead, and to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes).

Definition of Responsibilities:

General duties:
It is the responsibility of each employee of The Salvation Army, Tualatin Valley Citadel Corps, to
1.Reach out to people, without discrimination, in the name of The Salvation Army.
2.Help build whole people – spirit, soul and body – in the name of The Salvation Army.
3.Foster and maintain an atmosphere in which a dignified, holistic delivery of Youth Programs is provided.

Program:
1.Program Director for all Salvation Army Children and Youth programs.
2.Create programs which formulate small youth groups and individual youth to be involved in evangelistic outreach which link the community with the church
3.Development and oversight of all Salvation Army scouting programs offered such as Sunbeams, Girl Guards and Adventure Corps.
4.Coordinate and assist in the music for worship services with the appropriate leaders.
5.Development and oversight of music and creative ministry activities such as; worship team, drama, puppetry and singing company.
6.Establish and maintain an ongoing visitation program to include all participants of Young Adults and Youth Programs with emphasis on reaching extended family members.
7.Assist with other church programs as needed.
8.Assist with all aspects of Sunday Services.
9.Plan Special youth events such as Easter and Christmas Plays, camping, retreats and summer ministry teams.
10.Plan, organize and implement a Vacation Bible School program.
11.Will coordinate all residential camping activities which are part of Divisional activities. This includes, but is no limited to, Sports Camp, Creative Ministries Camp, SAY Camps, etc. This will also include responsibility to transport children and/or youth to destined locations.
12.Contact and train volunteers for the youth programs as needed.
13.Establish and maintain as needed the participation of church youth in all Divisional Youth events.
14.Develop and oversee annual budget for all children’s and youth Ministries.
15.Fundraising for the youth budget.
16.Attend all committee meeting dealing with youth programs and activities offered by the corps and any other meeting deemed beneficial to the development of the spiritual, social and educational lives of the young people.
17.Plan, organize and implement a Summer Day Camp Program.

Sunday School:
1.Priority should be given to its organization, growth and teaching effectiveness.
2.Teaching staff: Secure, train and develop adequate teachers and see that all classes are staffed properly. Plan and organize a regular schedule of teachers meetings.
3.Growth: Program for growth in the Sunday School by organizing visitation of visitor and other growth producing ideas.
4.Plan special Sunday School promotions in conjunction with the worship service.
5.Junior Church, Junior Soldier Programs: The Children and Youth Pastor will be responsible for selecting leaders, periodically supervise so that an effective worship program for children will be held each Sunday.


Transportation:
The Children and Youth Pastor is responsible for transportation for youth programming, including the cleaning and fueling of vehicles as necessary. All vehicles must be left clean, and with at least ½ tank of gas

Seasonal:
Children and Youth Pastor will assume additional responsibilities during the Christmas Season as assigned by the Officer.

Technical:
1.Ensure accurate reporting of all statistics, both written and electronic.
2.Maintain accuracy and proficiency with computer skills – especially Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher) and Salvation Army Social Service and Statistical Program.
3.Be responsible for maintenance and care of all AV and music equipment.

Miscellaneous:
1.Accurately report and punctually report all required statistical information.
2.Regularly meet and communicate with the Corps Officers to review all aspects of Salvation Army Family Service ministry in Washington County.
3.Maintain the ability to legally and safely operate a Salvation Army vehicle.
4.Other duties as assigned.
