Location
Conroe, TX is located just north of Houston about 45 minutes or so. It is in one of the most beautiful parts of Texas that there is. You are surrounded by the National Forest and you are just an hour or so from the gulf coast beach. It is a great place to raise a family and to build a church. Montgomery County is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. If you like the Big City you can be at an Astros game, a Texan game, a Rockets game, the Houston Zoo or countless other areas of interest in less than an hour. If you like the small town you will fit in here as well. We are far enough away to not be caught up in the rat race or the high crime. It is a great place to call home.

Church History
Church On The Rock is a non-denominational church that is about 5 years old. The church is connected to the mother church ( www.cotr.com) and 6 sister churches out of the Beaumont, TX area. Our pastor, Rev. Kevin Jones, his wife Vida and their three daughters moved form Beaumont to Conroe to start the church. The church started by having Sunday morning meetings in the Conroe Tower sixth floor meeting room. Within a few months we moved to our second location within the Courtlyn Shopping Center strip center with just 15 people.We have moved to our current location almost three years ago. We have made a number of improvements to this location. The church has grown from 15 to anywhere from 40-55 people on Sunday mornings and is still growing.

We are a church that has a three fold purpose or focus. We focus very intently on world missions and doing more than just sending money. In the past 12 months we have helped to send teams to a number of countries and spread the gospel. This past summer we sent a team to Mexico to help a small church and we have another team leaving in about 6 weeks. We also drill water wells all over Mexico bringing fresh water where there is none. We also sent a team to Brooklyn last summer to help Metro Ministries in their Sidewalk Sunday School Outreach.

The second area of focus is on our local community. We believe that a church needs to be making a difference in the community where they are.We have an outreach booth in downtown Conroe each October that allows us to tell thousands about Jesus and our church. We teach our adults and our youth to make their life valuable for the Kingdom. We have a Fall Festival each year for our community and last year we saw over a 1,000 in attendance.

Our third focus is to build strong families. We carefully guard our family’s time and offer training and insight to raising a family in a Christian manner. We have a wide range of ministry tools and classes for each age group. We are a family church and we really look out for each other. We have a new ministry that will soon be starting called “Greatest day” and it is a practical teaching on finances, parenting and families. We offer to those who are having a tough time in life and they are looking for a change. During this course time we purchase them groceries each week to help to make a fresh start.

Our youth department is a ground floor opportunity for the most part, except it does have an edge. There are about 6 youth in attendance right now. The youth meet on Wednesday nights in the youth room. The youth room will hold about 30-35 kids and has been fixed up to add some cool atmosphere. The name of our youth ministry is “The Fire Escape” and is just waiting to explode under the right leadership. It is definitely a challenge but can a great adventure for the right person.

The church itself is a great place to worship. We have contemporary worship that features some of the latest songs out there. It is done with high quality split-track CD’s for now but we are praying for a keyboard player even as we speak. Pastor Kevin presents the message with a very easy and laid back style. Each week you can take what you have learned and apply it to your life. We focus on relationship with Christ over some religious traditions. You will love the church.

Our Pastor
Our senior pastor is Rev. Kevin Jones and his wife Vida. They are definitely people of great faith and they are not afraid to take on the impossible. Pastor Kevin spent 12 years in youth ministry before joining the staff of Golden Triangle Church On The Rock as coordinator of R U 100% Sure? International Ministry and as associate pastor of evangelism for the church. During the 5 years on staff there, Pastor Kevin had the opportunity to speak all over the United States and in Spain, plus send teams all over the world training churches in evangelism. Since that time they have seen over 1,000,000 people come to the Lord.

January of 2002 the Lord spoke to Pastor Kevin about becoming a senior pastor. The staff of the church began praying with Pastor Kevin & Vida for the Lord to give direction and in September of 2002, God spoke to Pastor Kevin about planting a church a 100 miles away in Conroe, TX. That December Pastor Kevin & Vida resigned form their positions, leaving their salaries, selling their house and moved their girls Kevi, Katie and Kinsey to Conroe to follow the will of God. They came here without any connections, jobs or finances. It was one of the greatest days of their life.

Since coming to Conroe, God has blessed both of them with excellent secular jobs and finances have not been a problem. God has blessed the church and their personal income so that it has not been an area of stress at all. There is nothing more rewarding than being in the Perfect Will of God. Starting from scratch is not what they were looking for but it what God had for them and it has been perfect.

The Position
Well you have found out a little about what who we are, now is the time to see what we are looking for and what you can expect.

As we stated earlier, Pastor Kevin is a man of faith and is looking for staff that is big on faith as well. If you will only take on what you can see away of completing then you most likely will not fit in here. Now we know that a lot of people may say that if you cannot pay any salary you should take what you can get. That is the type of thinking that keeps small churches small and only accomplishing what they can see with the natural.

Pastor Kevin gave up everything he had to come here with no promise of anything but being in the will of God. God has the perfect person who is willing to come here on the same basis to do the youth. Someone who is a visionary thinker and is more concerned with being in the will of God over being in the money. Now please understand, even though the position does not offer any salary at the time being there is a real commitment attached to it. As the church grows and is able to pay a salary it will and it will pay very nicely as it grows. It just cannot be about the money now or ever.

The staff of the church is considered to be a part of Pastor Kevin & Vida’s family. They will be there for you, they will mentor you, care for you and pray for you. They will welcome you into their home and into their life as a real part of who they are.

We are a looking for someone who is not afraid of the dark… not afraid to step out where they cannot see. The qualifications are fairly simple: They must be spirit-filled believing the gifts are in operation today. Experience is more important than education. This is not a position for someone who has not served in a youth ministry role either as youth pastor or as a youth worker with a cutting edge youth ministry. The person must be able to present the gospel to the youth in a manner they can relate to. This person will not have to try and enjoy being around youth, but would come closer to have to struggle to be around adults. Someone not afraid to go into the schools at lunch and someone that will not make the youth afraid to see them show up in their school for lunch. This person will be willing to invest in the students life outside of the church and the youth room.

This person will need to have a desire for missions (Not to be a missionary by any means), a desire for evangelism and not afraid to show it. This person will be able to show the love of God without being all stuffy, while at the same time showing the kids it is OK to have standards when it comes to certain movies, music and other things. I will tell you that we are a church that would rather stand for what we believe than crusade for what we are against.
