DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRY
Position Description
First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell

The Director of Youth Ministry will give leadership to a comprehensive youth ministry for 6th-12th grade youth and college-age students at the church.

Principal Duties:
•Organize and facilitate regular small group meetings of Junior and Senior High youth that incorporate elements of study and fellowship;
•Serve as lead resource and support for the confirmation class teaching team;
•Support college-age students at school and at home. Provide opportunities for study and fellowship during the school year and summers;
•Provide a safe, inviting atmosphere for youth to congregate by planning and implementing special events such as recreational activities, lock-ins and retreats;
•Integrate service into youth opportunities, including providing support to the lay leadership for summer mission trips;
•Serve as a resource for worship services in which youth involvement is expected. Possibilities include contemporary worship, Taize or U2charist services;
•Participate in Sunday morning worship services as a liturgist as requested;
•Establish meaningful personal friendships with the young people in the congregation and demonstrate genuine care for them and their families;
•Support the youth in their personal activities inside and outside of the church, such as attending their sporting events, school plays, church choir concerts, award ceremonies, and more;
•Engage youth feedback for the shape and direction of the overall programming, in addition to being an active Youth Committee member;
•Share in the recruitment, training, support, and recognition of Youth Committee members and volunteers;
•Integrate the youth programs into the general church body by coordinating joint events with other church groups that do not primarily cater to youth;
•Remain updated on youth opportunities in and outside of the church and update youth and church leadership as required;
•Work effectively with parents to foster support of the youth programs, including ongoing communication to provide opportunities for participation and input;
•Be sensitive to individual and/or collective youth issues, and attend professional development for youth leaders to further growth and study;
•Execute other duties than those listed above as necessary to the vitality of the church youth ministry program;
•Participate as a full member of staff.

Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree required; youth ministry specialty degree preferred;
•Training and/or experience in youth ministry;
•Technologically skilled for outreach and communication with youth;
•Passion for and experience in contemporary worship services desirable;
•Ability to make a 3-5 year commitment expected;
•Familiarity with and appreciation of the history, theology, and polity of the PC(USA).

Performance and Evaluation:
The Director of Youth Ministry will operate under the immediate supervision of the Associate Pastor, and it is through that relationship that he/she will be accountable to the Pastor/Head of Staff. A performance review will be conducted annually. Performance will be evaluated on factors including overall job effectiveness and measured results based on the mission and vision of the Youth Committee. Compensation will be reviewed annually.

Compensation: Minimum of $35,000
