Are you someone who loves middle and high school students?

Are you at least a little bit crazy?

Do you like to drink Slurpees or Starbucks, or are you even willing to try the two mixed together?

Do you have at least one year of college under your belt?

Do you want to gain a ton of valuable student ministry experience throughout the summer and even make some money to help pay your college expenses?

If you answered yes to the questions above, you might be the intern we're looking for at Sunset! Sunset is a healthy Presbyterian church in NW Portland, OR averaging about 2,000 in attendance each week. Our student ministries are dynamic, growing, healthy, and cutting edge!

If you want to gain experience in the world of student ministry, earn $3,000 for your college expenses, and spend your summer as part of our student ministry team, we would invite you to apply for this intern position. Primary responsibilities this summer will be in the area of high school ministry, with additional experience in other areas based on abilities, spiritual gifts, etc.

Dear Potential Intern,

We are so very excited by the possibility of having you as a participant in Sunset’s Student Internship program. Our Student Ministry staff has worked hard to develop a solid, quality, life-impacting internship experience that will benefit both you and the people you will minister to throughout your life. Our prayer is that, as you read through the material contained in this manual, God will direct you and lead you into the place of ministry He most wants you to be. We would all be blessed if that leading brings you to Sunset.

Sunset’s Student Internship Program is a three-month experience designed to accomplish the following three objectives …

#1: To provide extensive exposure and training, to the intern, in Christian student ministry within the context of the local church.

#2:To create a team ministry environment in which the intern can grow spiritually and relationally with others involved in ministry.

#3:To identify spiritual gifting and a potential calling (or lack there-of) into vocational ministry.

If you believe that God may be leading you into a life of vocational student ministry, you will not find a better way to spend your summer. This internship program will give you the opportunity to experience many aspects of a successful and effective church ministry. It will give you a better understanding of the workings of a healthy evangelical church. Through interaction with pastors, volunteers, and fellow youth pastors, you will develop your ministry skills, deepen your relationship with God, and build friendships that will be remembered for a life-time.

One important point that needs to be made up front – this Internship Program is not designed to be a “summer job.” If you are seeking a job or source of income while home for the summer, you’ll make far more for your time someplace else. If, however, you are seeking God’s will for your life and want a life-changing experience in student ministry, then this program is for you.
