Submitted by: on March 4, 2000
Materials: Paper, Pencil
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 20-40 minutes
Cost: $0.00
This is the best connection game i'v ever playedBreak the group up into 2 or 3 groups. Put brothers/sisters on same team.
Pass out the paper with three blanks and ask them to list 3 things that no one on the other team knows about them.
Turn the papers back into you and you are the Games host. You read off a Random answer from team one and the people on team two and three have to guess who it is. The team who guesses right gets a point. If no one guesses right team one gets a point. and so on. Ypu learn some real cool stuff about each person and the students never forget some of them.
122. I Love All My Brothers and Sisters Who...
Submitted by: on March 4, 2000
Materials: chairs
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 20-40 minutes
Cost: $0.00
Get a group together and everyone sits in chairs in a circle. One person stands in the middle and everyone else sits. (Say you 20 people playing, only put out 19 chairs.) The person in the middle says, "I love all my brothers and sisters who..." and then they name something like who are wearing blue, are wearing earrings, who have ever been to a chat room on the internet, etc. Everyone who that applies to gets up and has to run to a different chair, including the person in the middle. Whoever doesn't get a chair is now in the middle. This is a really fun game. Everyone gets to know everyone else better, the youth love it, and it's just so funny to hear some of the things the youth come up with! This game can be played inside or out and with as many people as you want (at a group of 5 recommended). Try it out and have some fun!!
123. TP Shoot
Submitted by: on March 1, 2000
Materials: Lots of Toilet Paper, Volley ball net, Trash cans and long poles
Messy Rating: Clean up/Cool down
Duration: 5-20 minutes
Cost: ($40.00)
This one is a riot for a larger group.Setup: Divide your playing area (we use a gym) in half with a volley ball net set a normal height. Each side needs a garbage can attached to a long pole (or suspended from the ceiling) centered on each side. When you're done, the playing field will look like a basketball court with a volley ball net for the center line and garbage cans for baskets. Each side needs a case of toilet paper.
Playing the Game: Two teams. One on each side of the net. The object is to toss rolls of TP into the other team's trash can throwing over the net. Make sure to teach students on how to properly toss TP so that it unrolls as it flies through the air. This makes for a HUGE mess, but when else will students get to through TP around church?
Advise: You can get cases of TP from cleaning supply distributors for businesses. You can get a case of 90 some rolls for around $50. The more TP you have on hand, the better. This game is also tons of fun with the lights out with strobes going. You can rent special lights and they’re a breeze to setup.
124. Coal Mine
Submitted by: on March 1, 2000
Materials: Wheel Barrows, cones or obsticles
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 5-20 minutes
Cost: $0.00
This is a basic relay race using wheel barrows. You'll need at least two teams (you can have as many teams as you have wheel barrows). Set up a simple obstacle coarse with cones or other objects. Students participate in pairs: one rider, one pusher. The rider sits in the wheel barrow and holds on for dear life. The pusher must maneuver their partner through the obstacle coarse and back to their team. The next pair then does the same until all have completed. At my church, we add to the excitement (and safety) by having the riders wear helmets.
125. Create a Commercial
Submitted by: on February 21, 2000
Website: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/2547
Materials: Video camera, Various products, TV & VCR
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 20-40 minutes
Cost: $0.00
Gather various products from around the church or home. We used breath mints, fabric stain spray, a can of pinto beans, a stapler, vitamins, etc. Divide the kids into small groups. The size of the group may depend on the number of items. Aim for four or five in each group. Get more items if needed. Tell the kids to come up with a 30 to 60 second television commercial for their assigned product. Don't tell the other groups what your product is. Give them five or ten minutes to develop their commercial, then begin taking them into a prepared studio (a small classroom is fine) where they will do their commercial. Of course, a leader will be filming with the video camera. The other groups can be working on their commercials or doing another game while waiting for their "studio time." After all the commercials are filmed, show them on TV to the whole group. This is ideal for a lock-in. We had lots of fun. The pinto bean commercial was a real "gas."
126. In the Tomb, Out of the Tomb
Submitted by: on February 20, 2000
Website: http://hometown.aol.com/smcov7/index.html
Materials: nothing
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 5-20 minutes
Cost: $0.00
Draw a long line using yarn or masking tape. Have the children line up in a straight line facing the leader on the right side of the line. The right side of the line is called "In the tomb" and the left side of the line is named "out of the tomb". The leader yells "out of the tomb or in the tomb". Upon hearing the command the children jump from one side to the other. If the children jump in the wrong direction or don't jump to the other side when it's a vaild command they are out of the game. The last player in wins the game. The leader will try and get the players to miss jump by pointing to one side as they yell to jump to the opposite side or by repeating the same side and/or changing the pace.
127. Get to know you through the newspaper!
Submitted by: on February 15, 2000
Materials: newspaper (Sunday paper is best)
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 5-20 minutes
Cost: $2.00
Get a Sunday newspaper (so there will be plenty of options for the students to choose from) and remove all of the filler stuff (especially the cheesy gossip magazine). Separate the newspaper into sections so everyone isn't standing over one pile waiting to get their page, and have everyone come up and take a section of a section (usually this means they have 4 pages - 2 front and back that are connected - which is also 1 BIG sheet. For example: if they took the front page, they would also have the back page because they are connected). I think you get the idea. Anyway, have them spend 5 minutes looking for words that a) describe them, b) tell us something about them or their family, c) remind them of something that is relevant or close to them. They can pick as many words as they want, but they have to tell the group why they chose the words or what they mean. Oh, they can also choose phrases or pictures. This game works well if you have them circle the words or images as they go. You always learn something very interesting about someone playing this game.
128. MAN]-[UNT
Submitted by: on February 10, 2000
Website: http://geocities.com/metallica_2069/new.html
Materials: nothing
Messy Rating: Clean up/Cool down
Duration: 5-20 minutes
Cost: $0.00
First you divide the teams evenly. One group of people are the POLICE. The other group are the FUGITIVES. All the police go into another room or inside and the fugitives hide. The Police pick one fugitive and thats who they have to find and then tackle and then say "i have found one of the fugitives" once all the fugitives are found they switch and the police are fugitives and fugitives are the police. It is actually a cool game. HAVE SOME FUN!!!
129. Pool Noodle Names
Submitted by: Jonathan Dixon on February 10, 2000
Website: http://www.crosswinds.net/~jondixon/
Materials: Pool Noodle
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 5-20 minutes
Cost: $0.00
(Aka Fruit Basket) Have everyone sit on chairs in a circle and have one person in the middle with half of a pool noodle. One person starts by saying their name and then a second person's name. The person in the middle must try to hit the second person with the pool noodle before that person can say their own name and then someone elses. When the person in the middle hits someone before they say both names the person in the middle takes that person's chair and that person becomes the middle person. When the person in the middle is successful and thus gains a chair, they are the ones to start the game again by saying their own name and then someone elses. They have to do this before they sit in the chair, and if the forget and sit down first, they go back in the middle. As a variation for groups that get this quickly, have everyone make up a name (it can be anything, but make sure that they all sound different) and then everyone (especially the person in the middle) has to remember the new names as well as play the game. Again, its a very confusing kind of fun!
130. Pool Noodle Blindman's Bluff
Submitted by: Jonathan Dixon on February 10, 2000
Website: http://www.crosswinds.net/~jondixon/
Materials: Pool Noodle(s)
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 5-20 minutes
Cost: $0.00
Basically, this is a form of blindman's bluff. Blind fold one person and give them half of a pool noodle. Then yell go, and they have to run arround trying to hit other people with the noodle. Have at least one leader make sure that the blindfolded person does not hurt themselves by running into walls or something. As an alternative version of this game, have the blindfolded person stand in the middle of the room and have everyone run from side to side when someone says go. You could add several blind people to this version to allow the blind people to have a better chance at getting everyone.
131. Pool Noodle Swat
Submitted by: Jonathan Dixon on February 10, 2000
Website: http://www.crosswinds.net/~jondixon/
Materials: Pool Noodle
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 20-40 minutes
Cost: $0.00
(Aka Sword in the Stone) Take one pool noodle and cut it in half. Use only one half at first. This is the "swatter." Have all the youth sit in chairs in a circle with one chair in the middle. The person in the middle takes the swatter and hits someone who is sitting on the lap. The youth in the middle then runs and places the swatter on the chair in the middle and trys to run back to the chair of the person they swatted before that person can get up, take the swatter from the chair in the middle and hit the person back. As the youth get good at this game, move the circle further apart and add more swatters (means more people in the middle) and more chairs in the middle. I've had as many as 4 swatters on the go at once and its a very confusing kind of fun!
132. Pool Noodle Fencing
Submitted by: Jonathan Dixon on February 10, 2000
Website: http://www.crosswinds.net/~jondixon/
Materials: Poo Noodles
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 5-20 minutes
Cost: $0.00
Take one pool noodle and cut it in half to make two "swords." The rules are simple. The two combatants face one another with the swords in one hand. The other hand has to be behind their back. The scoring zone is from the shoulders to the waist. The first person to hit the other person in the zone 5 times wins the round. You can make this into a tournament by having the all the winners play each other until there are only two teens left. Declare the Pool Noodle Fencing Champion from their bout.
133. Pool Noodle Hockey
Submitted by: Jonathan Dixon on February 10, 2000
Website: http://www.crosswinds.net/~jondixon/
Materials: Pool Noodles and Ducktape
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 20-40 minutes
Cost: $0.00
Ball Hockey always leaves the less than athletic people out of the game. In this version, take a pool noodle and cut about 1 inch of the end, cover it in ducttape. This is the puck. Because its so light, even the worst goalie can stop the shot. Also, its difficult to get a good 'slap shot' because the puck won't fly straight. As a second suggestion, try useing pool noodles cut in half as the hockey sticks. I've always wanted to try this, but have never had the time as yet.
134. Pool Noodle Baseball
Submitted by: Jonathan Dixon on February 8, 2000
Website: http://www.crosswinds.net/~jondixon/
Materials: 1 Pool Noodle, 1 Old Sock, a couple sheets of newspaper, masking tape
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 20-40 minutes
Cost: $0.00
This is a form of Indoor Baseball. Take the pool noodle and cut it in half to form two bats. Take the sock and stuff it with balled up newspaper (or anything else soft) and maskingtape it into a ball-like shape. Regular baseball rules apply. I found it works best when the teams have a "five run rule" per inning. This is great for people who don't have a gym and only have a small rec room in their church.
135. Bible Detective
Submitted by: on February 8, 2000
Materials: Bibles, colored index cards, pencils, paper
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 20-40 minutes
Cost: $0.00
This is a great game for any number, as long as you plan the number of teams in advance. It is a scavenger hunt for your building. The kids really got a kick out of searching around the building. Give them a "clue", something that they have to find from using the Bible. Such as finding a separate word in each verse, then putting together all of the words to spell out the clue (ex.in an NIV Bible Gen. 4:5 10th word - LOOK, Job 35:9 4th word - UNDER, Acts 8:3 7th word - CHURCH, Psalm 113:8 2nd word - SEATS would lead them to crawl under the pews, where they would find their next clue.) The clue they find would lead them somewhere else and so on until they come back together at the designated meeting place. Not all of them have to be spelled out. You can also give a verse that infers an area of the church so they have to reason it out. Put the clues on color coded cards so that one team will not accidentally look at another teams clues. It is also a good idea to have the teams in different areas at the same time. Make the blue team's 2nd clue be the green team's 5th clue, so that they would not be looking in the same place at the same time. First team to get all of their clues back to the meeting place wins. Good to build teamwork and searching the Bible.
136. The Love Song Game
Submitted by: on February 7, 2000
Materials: paper and pens
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 20-40 minutes
Cost: $0.00
Split up into even teams...works best with around 5 teams. Have the kids come up with as many songs that have the word 'love' in the title as they can in 5 min. Then, the fun part, go around the room and have them take turns singing one song at a time...any other team that has the song that is being sung must mark it off. If they don't, they are out. Keep doing this til you run out of songs, then the team with the most songs wins!!
137. Faith
Submitted by: on February 4, 2000
Website: http://www.angelfire.com/nh/kennys
Materials: A large open area.
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 5-20 minutes
Cost: $0.00
Start with asking for a volunteer to test his/her faith. Have 2-4 people stand around the volunteer and have the volunteer close his/her eyes and lean in to the arms of the people around him/her. Have the catchers push the volunteer around to each others arms. Also have the catchers delay pushing the person for the increased scare affect. Play until all who want to have a turn get to be caught. This is a fun game when there is nothing else to do. Enjoy!!
138. Seven Eleven
Submitted by: on January 26, 2000
Materials: nothing
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: Under 5 minutes
Cost: $0.00
Come up with a category such as "Famous Cats". The player must come up with the names of 7 famous cats in 11 seconds. If he wins, give him a prize. If he loses, pick another contestant. This can go on as long as you want it to.
139. Tennis Baseball
Submitted by: on January 24, 2000
Materials: tennis racket and tennis ball
Messy Rating: Clean up/Cool down
Duration: 40+minutes
Cost: $0.00
This game puts kind of a crazy twist on a baseball game and no baseball gloves are needed. You play it the same way as baseball but you use a tennis racket and a tennis ball. It works best if you have three teams, one at bat and two in the outfield but if you have a smaller group two teams are fine. The kids love it because they can hit the ball so far. This game was a big hit with our teens this past summer!
140. Elf Defense
Submitted by: on January 18, 2000
Materials: balloons
Messy Rating: Clean up/Cool down
Duration: Under 5 minutes

Form two teams of elves. Each team must defend its treasure (a pile of balloons) while attempting to steal or destroy the other team's treasure. Use one color of balloons for one team, and another color for the other team. Designate a time period (five to 10 minutes) to play the game.
