1. Blind Journey Submitted by: on January 10, 2001
Materials: Blindfold
Messy Rating: No Sweat     Duration: 5-20 minutes    Cost: $0.00

Blind fold everyone participating and line them up one behind the other and then lead them out to a location away from your meeting place. Place adult leaders around the perimeter to keep anyone from falling or tripping over something that would hurt them. Objective: To have everyone seperate and find their way back to a designated location. (There will be many different emotions felt by the individuals in the group) After about 10 or 15 min. have the people pair up and have one person wear the blind fold and the other person be their guide. The guide must direct the person back to the destination by speaking to them and giving them direction. ( No touching). The emotions and feelings of being guided while still not being able to see will be quite different. Have the group to share in a small group setting the feelings they experienced. Hopefully they will experience the difference between walking blindly without God and walking in faith with God.

2. Wheel of Faith Submitted by: on January 9, 2001
Materials: spinning device (lazy susan) & chalkboard
Messy Rating: No Sweat     Duration: 20-40 minutes    Cost: $0.00

Just like Wheel of Fortune except with a spiritual purpose. Our wheel is simply a round piece of wood attached to a square base by a spinning device (easily bought at local hardware store). Cut out different colours of triangle-shaped construction paper and write on them ( ie. 100 points, 500 points, bankrupt, prize - we even had on that said "sing" where if the player didn't get a letter they had to sing something). Now glue these onto the circular piece of wood to create a "wheel of faith". We placed thumb tacks on the perimeter of the wheel and used one half of an ice cream bucket handle as a wand to gradually slow down the wheel ( similar to the real one on the show).
You can use similar categories for your puzzles but we try to use lots of Scripture verses or Church related things - any phrase, place, person, event, or before & after concept you think would fit. Draw as many blank spaces on the chalkboard as there are letters in the puzzle (like hangman). Let the kids spin individually or as a team (if there are lots of kids) and let them guess letters and try to solve the puzzle - give them a small prize if they succeed. Like the real thing if someone's letter isn't on the board they lose thier turn. This is a great way to get the regular kids to learn more Scripture verses and to expose the new kids to Gospel verses and ideas.

3. Frisbee Wars Submitted by: on January 8, 2001
Materials: 15-20 Soft Foam Frisbees
Messy Rating: Clean up/Cool down     Duration: 5-20 minutes    Cost: $0.00

This game is best played in doors where space is limited. Divide the group into two teams. Divide the room in half and place an equal amount of frisbees on each side. The object is to hit the other team with the frisbees while dodging the other teams attempts to hit you. If any player gets hit at any time they are out until the next game even if they catch a frisbee thrown by the other team.

4. Stare Down Submitted by: on January 8, 2001
Materials: nothing
Messy Rating: No Sweat     Duration: 5-20 minutes    Cost: $0.00

Start by having all of the kids remove one shoe and placing it in a pile in another room. Then place two chairs facing each other in the middle of the meeting room. Start by having an assitant randomly draw two shoes from the pile. The owners of these two shoes then sit facing each other in the chairs. On "go" they stare into each others eyes until one of them blinks. The object is to "out-stare" your opponent. The winner stays in the chair and another shoe is randomly selected from the pile to face the champion. Whoever is in the chair after all of the "shoes" have gone is the winner and should be rewarded somehow. It is a fun game...however, I had one student who wouldn't play until he doused his shoe and sock with Lysol from the bathroom!

5. walk of faith Submitted by: on January 7, 2001
Materials: a board at least 4 foot long and 4 inches wide(two by four works best)

6. Worseminton Submitted by: on January 7, 2001
Website: http://www.greatbigresources.co.uk
Materials: Badminton Court & Net, Rackets for all participants, many, many, shuttlecocks
Messy Rating: No Sweat     Duration: 5-20 minutes    Cost: $0.00

Set up a badminton court and net as normal. Divide the kids into two teams, the theoretical maximum is about ten per team. Each team takes one side of the court. Every player has a racquet.

Appoint a referee, who stands alongside the net, and two line judges, one for each half.

Start the game by throwing ten shuttlecocks into each half of the court. The kids then serve them all, and try to return the shots from their opponents. There are no rules (apart from the obvious ones about not clubbing opponents etc.)

If a shuttlecock lands in one team's court, they gain a point. The line judges count the number of times a shuttlecock lands in their area. Shuttles that land out don't count, and incur no penalty.

At the end of the game, the team with the least points (i.e. least shuttles landing in their court) is the winner. For extra madness, keep throwing more shuttles into play as the game progresses. I've found that games of five minutes can yield scores of several hundred points.

Enjoy!

7. Two Step Submitted by: on January 4, 2001
Materials: 2 vollyballs
Messy Rating: No Sweat     Duration: 40+minutes    Cost: $0.00

This game is best when played with 20 people. but you can have less or more.
The Goal is to be the last person left.
If you have a ball, you can only move by throwing it off a wall and lettingit roll. Once yoiu are holding it, you can only take two steps.
You get out by either getting hit by a ball, or someone catching a ball you threw. Now this is where it gets interesting. If you get out, you want to pay attention to the person who got you out, cause if they get out. You andwhoever they got out, are back in. I have had one game last 1 hour befor, but you can end it when ever you like.

11. Hey John !!!! Submitted by: on December 15, 2000
Materials: 1 chair
Messy Rating: No Sweat     Duration: Under 5 minutes    Cost: $0.00

This is hillarious. Works best with groups of 10+. Have a youth worker get 3 volunteers from the group and exit room. Have another youth worker explain to the rest of the group that each student is going to come in, sit in the chair and act something out. They are to secretely pretend that the student in the chair is using the John. Have the youth worker tell the 3 volunteers that they are to go in one at a time, sit in the chair, and pretend to do whatever you ask such as riding a roller coaster, experiencing an earthquake, or my favorite, holding their breath as long as they can and then breathing in the air above them (like they are submersed in water up to their nose). After each student has acted out their scene, tell them what the other students imagined them to be doing!! Using the John!!! Great way to start out a youth event.

12. Slaughter House Nine Submitted by: on December 14, 2000
Materials: Nerf or Volly Balls
Messy Rating: No Sweat     Duration: Under 5 minutes    Cost: $0.00

Get all the students into as small a circle as you can. have all the leaders make a circle around the students. Give balls to most of the leaders. This game is like dodge ball, except the students dont have a chance to do anything, and it is a good way to get them back for all they have done to you.

13. Run and Pluck Submitted by: on December 11, 2000
Materials: nothing
Messy Rating: Clean up/Cool down     Duration: 20-40 minutes    Cost: $0.00

divide the group into 2 teams (boys vs girls works the best). get the boys to interlock with eachother using arms legs ect and sit them down in a circle.(If you have 9 boys sitting down, then you will have 10 girls as runpluckers). As the music plays the girls run around the boys circling their prey, when the music stops the girls run in and pluck a boy from the cluster (the boys can resist). Once a girl has her man out of the cluster he can not reconnect and the girl must stand back with her man and watch the others get torn apart. After all the boys have been plucked one girl will be left without a man and is out, due to this elimination the leader takes out a boy (9 girls and 8 boys for this round). The music starts up again and we keep going until there is 1 boy 2 girls left in the final.
After that final is played swap the teams around (girls interlock and boys become the runpluckers).
This game is loads of fun and is a fave at Narraweena.

14. Boomer trail Submitted by: on December 11, 2000
Materials: rope
Messy Rating: Don't wear good clothes     Duration: 20-40 minutes    Cost: $0.00

Tie a rope (you may need multiple ropes) along an outdoor trail anywhere from 100m long to as long as you like. Make sure the trail goes thru many obstacles such as creeks, mud flats, over seesaws, and thru any other obstacles your location can provide. Sounds easy? Next line up your youth group and blind fold them one by one. They must get to the end of the course by holding on to the rope and following the person in front. Think they might peep? Wait till it's dark!

15. Musical Clothes Submitted by: on December 7, 2000
Materials: A bag of items of clothing
Messy Rating: No Sweat     Duration: 5-20 minutes    Cost: $0.00

Everyone is seated in a circle on the floor. As music is played, the bag of clothes is handed around quickly without hesitation. When the music is stopped, whoever is holding the bag must put on the item of clothing that they pick out first. This game lasts until the clothes are gone. Whoever has the most articles of clothing on in the end wins.

16. Ultimate Human Foosball Submitted by: on December 2, 2000
Website: http://www.hyssop.com/bay
Materials: spiral pet anchors, 1/4" rope, soccer ball, 2 goals
Messy Rating: Clean up/Cool down     Duration: 20-40 minutes    Cost: $0.00

OK, so the $0 cost is the cost of playing... AFTER you buy the supplies ($50-100 one time). (But most of the supplies can be gathered up from the church storeroom anyway.) ;-)

Preparation: You buy those spiral pet anchors for as many as you want on the field (usually 9 per team). You tie 1/4" polyprop line to each-about 10" long. Attach a 1" metal ring to the other. Pulling the line through the metal ring that it is tied to, creates a "noose" to go around the player's ankle. Prior to each game you screw the anchors into the field. Be careful to position them close enough together, about 15 feet, so that players can interact. (A variation is to leave the anchors in the field, if you have that option, and use some type of snap on that end of the line.) You use a net or two cones at each end of the field for goals.

Position the playing field as below for team "X" and team "O", "G" is for goal:
__________________________
X OXOXO

XG X OXOXO OG

X OXOXO
--------------------------

Basically it's soccer, except that you are tied (literally) in one place. Which brings me to the part where I say... Don't come crying to me if someone gets hurt. The combination of kids running full speed while being tethered on a ten foot leash... well you get the picture. They can run into each other; the ropes can become tangled; and of course they can simply "run out of rope"! The least you can expect is a few rope burns (though heavy socks help). So if you want to test you church's insurance-go for it! The kids will love it!

17. Y you look good today Submitted by: on November 30, 2000
Materials: q-tips, food colouring, old shirt, goggles, bowls and straws
Messy Rating: Clean up/Cool down     Duration: 5-20 minutes    Cost: $5.00

This game isn't really called "Y you look good today" I just wanted to have the only game in the 'Y' section. It's called Q-Tip Wars. You pick one person in your group to be a target. They wear goggles, a garbage bag around their waste and a shirt that you've drawn on that is divided into different point sections. Then you split the rest of your group into 4 teams and give each team their own bowl of food colouring and each person gets a straw and 5 q-tips. Let each team go separatly and have the team dip their
q-tips into the food colouring and blown out the straws hitting the target for points. You can add up the points at the end by the different coloured marks on the shirt. Award each winning team member a pet turtle just because I like turtles and everyone should own a turtle, even if they smell... What a game! You'll be a star!

18. 60,30,10,5 Submitted by: on November 30, 2000
Materials: nothing
Messy Rating: No Sweat     Duration: 5-20 minutes    Cost: $0.00

Have two volunteers to begin this game. have the others decide on a scene that the two volunteers will act out, such as "a marriage proposal" or "recieving a grammy award". the first time tthe volunteers have 60 seconds to act out the scene, then 30 seconds, then 10 seconds, then 5 seconds. it can get really hilarious!

19. Cracker Ping Pong Submitted by: on November 30, 2000
Materials: ping pong ball, any dry crackers
Messy Rating: Clean up/Cool down     Duration: Under 5 minutes    Cost: $0.00

Get 2 volunteers to kneel at opposite sides of a table with hands behind their back. With masking tape, mark a horizontal line down the center of table, representing the division of the two sides of the table. Tell them the object of the game is when the leaders places the ping pong ball on the table, they have to blow it (no hands!)and try to get it past their opponent (off the side) They can only blow and block the ball with their chest to keep it on the table. The catch is that before placing the ball on the table, each contestant is given a dry cracker, such as a Saltine to chew quickly before they begin blowing! Hilarious fun! They laugh so hard when they blow and cracker crumbs fly out of their mouths that the game gets really goofy!

20. Chubby Chihuahua Submitted by: on November 21, 2000
Materials: Jalapeno or Pepperoncini Peppers
Messy Rating: Need a towel or two     Duration: 5-20 minutes    Cost: $6.00

The exact same game as Chubby Bunny, except you use peppers. Get some people up there who can stand the heat (though numbness ensues about 3-4 peppers into the fray). Pepperoncini's are those yellow peppers that they use at Subway and are less hot than the jalapenos.
