Friday, February 18, 2005 Return to Questions
"The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight, but no vision." - Helen Keller.

"Example is not the main thing in persuading others; it's the only thing." - Albert Schweitzer

Here are some questions (Thanks to Tony Myles for His contribution for this week's questions.

If you had the chance to pick one over the other, which would you pick (and why)?

(feel free to copy and paste - but don't change the question - either A or B - NOT BOTH)

1.Be in a church: A. That asks you to turn in numbers (because one way they measure growth is with numbers) B. Where no one really focuses on numbers much? Why?

  • B. Because it's not about numbers, it's about Jesus Christ and doing his work. (Levi Paradee)
  • A - At least they are measurign growth, but I hope the numbers would reflect real growth, not just attendance (Aaron Davis)
  • A. That is one way to measure growth (ben russ)
  • a (Robert Cornelius)
  • B. because I feel that a church the concentrates so much on numbers is possibly not always being led by God. (Mandy Gregg)
  • B, We need to focus on growing people spiritually, not in numbers. (Bill Null)

2.Be in a ministry: A. Where you have a lot of hands-on with students and only a few adult volunteers? B. Where you have a lot of hands-on with adults and rarely hang out with teens? Why?

  • A. I have a heart to help teens and to show them Christ, and to help them Keep it real. The more students you can interact with the better, and it's hard to keep an effective minsitry with no help. (Levi Paradee)
  • B - Volunteers connect better with teens. As far as most teens are concerned, the youth pastor has to be there...its his job. (Aaron Davis)
  • A. I liked to work with kids (ben russ)
  • a (Robert Cornelius)
  • Definately A. I feel called to work with the youth and I'm there for them whether any other adults step up to help. (Mandy Gregg)

  • A. It's very important to meet with someone and have set goals that you want to meet. You need to have a vision to accomplish. (Levi Paradee)
  • A - A church can't function without accountability and every ministry ought to be uner the authority of the pastor (Aaron Davis)
  • A. We need guidance from somebody that is wiser (ben russ)
  • a (Robert Cornelius)

4.Have another fulll-time staff person in youth ministry help you with: A. Programming? B. Outreach? Why?

  • B. You don't want to have just your own perspective. In order to be effective and reach as many students as possible you need more perspectives. Having another person helping you with outreach is a good idea. (Levi Paradee)
  • A - Outreach is a natural by product of any good ministry (Aaron Davis)
  • A. Students can work on the outreach (ben russ)

5.Have a place to meet that is: A. A building five miles up the street that you run as a student center, but are disconnected from the church? B. A multi-purpose room that is a part of the main church building and you share with other ministries? Why?

  • A. Christ is not contained in a building we call church. Christ is in us and goes with us everywhere. Having your own place to meet is pretty cool, and being away from the church is not so intimadating to students. (Levi Paradee)
  • B - A studnet center is nice but not worth leaving campus. The youth have to connect with the church as a whole, otherwise we lose them at graduation (Aaron Davis)
  • B. we are a part of the church, we don't need to hide that (ben russ)
  • b (Robert Cornelius)
  • A. Teens need their own place outside of the church setting. It's important to be connected on Sundays or other church times but also important for them to have their own place to meet for their own times. (Mandy Gregg)
  • A, It would give more opportunities to reach "un-churched" youth. (Bill Null)
