9.  Parable of the Fence
From Deep Thoughts by Gman on Friday, June 14, 2013 @ 11:10 AM PST
in the "Blog" Category.
Read the Following parable from "Leading the Comeback Church -David Nixon pg.143) Once upon a time two brothers who lived on adjoining farms fell into conflict. It was the first serious rift in 40 years of farming side by side, sharing machinery, and trading labor and goods as needed without a hitch. Then the long collaboration fell apart. It began with a small misunderstanding and it grew into a major difference, and finally it exploded into an exchange of bitter words followed by weeks of silence. One morning there was a knock on John's door. He opened it to find a man with a carpenter's toolbox. "I'm looking for a few days work" the man said. "Perhaps you would have a few small jobs here and there. Could I help you?" "Yes," said the older brother. "I do have a job for you. Look across the creek at that farm. That's my neighbor, in fact, it's my younger brother. Last week there was a meadow between us and he took his bulldozer to the river levee and now there is a creek between us. Well, he may have done this to spite me, but I'll go him one better. See that pile of lumber curing by the barn? I want you to build me a fence -- an 8-foot fence -- so I won't need to see his place anymore. That'll show him." The carpenter said, "I think I understand the situation. Show me the nails and the post-hole digger and I'll be able to do a job that pleases you." The older brother had to go to town for supplies, so he helped the carpenter get the materials ready and then he was off for the day. The carpenter worked hard all that day measuring, sawing, nailing. About sunset when the farmer returned, the carpenter had just finished his job. The farmer's eyes opened wide. His jaw dropped. There was no fence there at all. It was a bridge -- a bridge stretching from one side of the creek to the other! A fine piece of work, handrails and all -- and the neighbor, his younger brother, was coming across, his hand outstretched. "You are quite a fellow to build this bridge after all I've said and done." The two brothers met at the middle of the bridge, taking each other's hand. They turned to see the carpenter hoist his toolbox on his shoulder. "No, wait! Stay a few days. I've a lot of other projects for you," said the older brother. "I'd love to stay on," the carpenter said, "but I have so many more bridges to build."http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/ZioO Read More...

10.  A Perfect Pastor
From Deep Thoughts by Gman on Friday, June 14, 2013 @ 10:58 AM PST
in the "Blog" Category.
A Perfect Pastor (pg 102 Leading the Comeback church -David Nixon shares the following from In Holly Humor Cal and Rose Samra the profile of a perfect pastor) A Perfect Pastor... Results of a computerized survey show that the perfect pastor... Preaches exactly 15 minutes, condemns sin, but never upsets anyone. He works from 8:00 AM until midnight and is also the janitor. He makes $60 per week, wears good clothes, buys good books, drives a good car... and gives about $50 per week to the poor. He is twenty-eight years old and has been preaching for thirty years. He is wonderfully gentle and handsome. He has a burning desire to work with teenagers and spends all his spare time with senior citizens. The perfect pastor smiles all the time with a straight face because he has a sense of humor that keeps him seriously dedicated to his work. He makes fifteen calls a day on church families, shut-ins and hospitalized; Spends all his time evangelizing the "unchurched" and is always in his office when needed. If your pastor does not measure up, simply send this letter to six other churches that are tired of their pastor, too. Then bundle up your pastor and send him to the church at the top of the list. In one year, you will receive 1,643 pastors and one of them should be perfect. WARNING!!! Keep this letter going! One church broke the chain and got its old pastor back in less than three months.http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/ZioO Read More...

in the "Resources" Category.
One of the four areas of focus for youthministry360 is Networking. For us, networking is how we shine a spotlight on people and ministries doing awesome stuff you need to know about. Our good friends at LeaderTreks are one of our Networking Partners. In addition to producing our Disciple Now and Retreat curriculum with them, we ocasionally feature awesome freebies from them. This one is one of the best yet. This free e-book is called Helping Parents Connect. It provides ways for your students' parents to be involved before, during, and after your youth group's next mission trip. Here's a little bit of a description about the book:All programs and trips have short comings in youth ministry and one of them for student mission trips is that parents are not involved. Mission trips are better when parents work hand and hand with youth workers. In Helping Parents Connect, Doug Franklin outlines how parents can be involved in their students' mission trips before, during, and after the trip. This tool is designed to get you involved from the beginning and to help parents grow with your kids through this experience. To download this awesome freebie, simply CLICK HERE to head on over to LeaderTrek's website.
