1. Shoot-Out!
Submitted by: on June 30, 1998
Materials: Rubber Bands
Messy Rating: No Sweat
Duration: 5-20 minutes
Cost: $5.00
This game was used with a message on gun use by teens. Depending on size of your group, buy enough rubber bands for each kid to have about 3/4 each. (ex: if you have 50 kids, buy 200 bands) Don't get the dinky ones, buy some good "shooters." First I told them I had some weapons they could shoot each other with but they had to get into 2 teams for the "shoot out." Some of the kids started grabbing chairs and making blockades for themselves. Then I threw each group (now split on both ends of the room hiding behind chairs) a couple handfuls of the rubber bands, cut the lights (it wasn't totally dark with outside light through windows) had our sound man spin some tunes, and they had a ball "shooting" each other for about ten minutes.
The distance (5-10 feet) ensured no one was hurt, each side had plenty of ammo using the incoming bands, everybody participated (low skill level), you can't hurt anything in a room with a rubber band (we meet in our sanctuary!).
How do you get all the bands picked up in 1 minute? Just give a "dingdong" prize to the person who picks up the most bands in the next minute. They scrambled like crazy for the brown paper bag with a bow on it (funky new kind of peanut butter my wife found at the store-$1.50). Have the kids help put the chairs back and your done.
ps. Sell the rubber bands to your church secretary for full refund of game cost. Just an idea, I'll never use all my rubber bands, ha.
One of the kids mentioned paint ball. I don't think so, Tim.
