Youth Ministry Games : I Wanna Be A Hot Beanie Baby

1. I Wanna Be A Hot Beanie Baby Submitted by: on March 3, 1999
Materials: A small stuffed animal for each contestant
Messy Rating: No Sweat Duration: 20-40 minutes Cost: $5.00

This is a play on the old "Hot Potato" game. Go to your nearest Goodwill or Salvation Army and pick up several dozen small stuffed animals, depending on the number of people in your group. You could use real Beanie Babies, but they may just lose their beans in the process to follow, so cheap stuffed animals are best. Give each member one of the animals and have them stand in a circle. Pick one or two distinctly different animals that will be the "Hot Wanna Be Beanie Babies". Pick more if you have a larger group. Put on some good, upbeat music, and have all the contestants pass the animals in one direction around the circle as fast as they can. Have the person running the music stop the music at random. The people who are left holding the "Hot" animals are out. All of the rest of the people at that time get to deck the ones who are out with their animals by hurling them at high velocities (I claim no responsibility if there are large plastic eyes or something on the animals that hurt people!). Once everyone who is still in picks up their animals, start over again. Make sure you work the "Hot" animals back in the game for each round. Give prizes to the people who are left standing at the end. Also, you'll find that a lot of kids will realize they have the "Hot" animal and will chuck it towards someone else as the last second when the music is stopped. If you catch them, be sure to eliminate them. If you don't catch them, make the person who is standing closest to the shed animal out. Usually if you don't catch the person getting rid of the Hot animal, there won't be a person within 50 feet of the thing. You may be surprised how quickly people can move in that short of a time span. Have a Jovial Time!
