Customer Reviews Summary: Bad Title, Great Book Rating: 5 Bad title because it deals with much more than just legal ramifications. Great book because it does an EXCELLENT job of addressing both spiritual safety and physical safety. IE. If you have a lock-in/all-nighter teen party, this book addresses making sure there are adequate measures to keep a guy and girl from sneaking off into a corner of the church somewhere... NOT something to get sued over, but definitely something to be concerned about as spiritual leaders who have been entrusted with kids as well as desiring the best for the people who take part in church activities. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a leadership position in their church or deals with church activities for any age group. A MUST read!!! Summary: A Good Book Rating: 4 This is a good book for learning about all the things that could go wrong. Although the author tries to be balanced, I was left wondering how we could do anything without violating some safety concern. I would recommend it for the awareness it will raise in you concerning some avoidable mistakes. Also, there are some good sample forms in the back. However, parents are not necessarily going to sign their names to the provisions given in the forms, such as that they will not hold youth group leaders liable for any injury or death. I'm not sure what to do when people won't sign the forms. We let the kid come anyway. Overall, an informative book which all youth group leaders should read at least once but not take so seriously that it wrecks their ministry. Summary: Just What I Was Looking For Rating: 4 I looked all over for a book just like this one, a primer for legal issues in youth ministry. When I finally got it, I read the whole thing in a day and a half. It was well written, with good examples (some of them downright frightening). He has lots of good sample forms and things. He's got a safety survey that I and my staff took. It was real eye opening. I really do recommend this book. |
